Welcome to The Canterbury Suites
The Canterbury Suites stands as a remarkable gem in the heart of Hollywood, offering guests a unique blend of historic charm and modern comfort. Nestled at 1746 N Cherokee Ave, Los Angeles, this 4.2-star boutique hotel captivates visitors with its original Art Deco architecture and storied past, setting it apart from typical accommodations in the area.
Guests frequently praise the spacious, thoughtfully designed suites that reflect the building’s apartment origins while incorporating contemporary amenities. Each room features a full kitchen, king-sized beds adorned with plush pillows, and clean, well-appointed bathrooms with rain showers—creating a welcoming and practical environment for both short stays and extended visits.
What truly makes The Canterbury Suites memorable is its warm and knowledgeable staff, especially the concierge Timothy, whose friendliness and insight into Hollywood's colorful history make every guest feel like a friend rather than a visitor. His passion for the hotel’s past and the vibrant neighborhood elevates the stay beyond mere lodging to an immersive cultural experience.
The property’s ongoing remodeling work promises to enhance its unique character without sacrificing the original architectural integrity that so many guests cherish. For those who appreciate authentic Hollywood glamour, the hotel’s proximity to landmarks like the TCL Chinese Theatre and the Walk of Fame positions it as an ideal base for exploration.
Although it lacks certain amenities like a pool, fitness center, or on-site restaurant, The Canterbury Suites offers essential conveniences such as free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and pet-friendly accommodations, ensuring guests’ comfort. The lack of an airport shuttle or fitness center is a small trade-off for an authentic, low-key experience steeped in history and character.
In a city often defined by flashy modernity, The Canterbury Suites delivers a refreshing refuge with deep roots in Hollywood’s punk rock and golden eras. It’s a place where history lives on in its walls and the stories shared by its staff, making every visit not just a stay, but a journey through time. For those seeking more than just a hotel—a true taste of old Hollywood—the Canterbury Suites is an unmatched choice.

This place is amazing. It’s has amazing charm and character. Timothy planned our entire stay and we had such an amazing time. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable about Hollywood. Def ask for him at checkin. They are remodeling the place and it has a ton of cool history! This is one of the coolest hotels I have stayed in and I can’t wait to come back when it’s finished!
Overall I can say that I liked this place. I get the impression that it used to be an apartment building and has been renovated into a hotel, but in an interesting way. The rooms are quite spacious, with floor plans that are unconventional. The beds are nice, large, comfy with more fluffy pillows than you would ever need. The furniture is also nice and new. Bathroom is stocked with shower and bath products that you want to take home with you. Plenty of hand towels, wash clothes and bath towels are already provided when you check in. Every room has a kitchen, mine had a full kitchen, not a kitchenette, a full freaking kitchen which I did not use. The stairway and halls leading to the rooms is dark and possibly still the original wood. Soundproofing hasn't been a part of the renovation, but it is forgivable. The rooms are seriously nice. When you walk from the dark hallway into the room you've rented it is like you have passed through to another dimension. There is an obvious investment of thought and design that has been put into the look and feel of the rooms. There is a gate code which you can use to gain access to the common areas so if you have guests you can give them the code and your room number and they can find their way to your room. This place is unique and pretty awesome. I will visit again.
I had a fantastic stay at the Canterbury Suites. Timothy, at the front desk, was such a great host. He told me all about the colorful history of the hotel and the neighborhood around it. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Timothy; he was gracious, friendly, and really just made you feel like a friend. It’s been a while since I have been to Hollywood so I was worried about not knowing exactly where the hotel was located in accordance to all the tourist stuff; and I could not have been happier. It was literally smack dab in the middle of everything. I was able to walk almost everywhere; and if it was a little longer than I felt like walking the metro rail was a few blocks away for easy travel. The room I stayed in was huge. It was clean and decorated with cute little details that made it feel like old Hollywood. I will 100% be coming back and staying here again. I also can’t wait to check out their Venice beach location!!!
The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Timothy, the concierge, was very accommodating and knowledgeable of the building's history. The room was very clean and spacious. It offered a full kitchen with all the necessary pots, pans and utensils to cook meals, should you desire to do so. I am 6'2" so I was very pleased with the king sized bed. The the bathroom was clean and offered a rain shower head, which not only uses less water than a conventional, it feels great. Despite the building being renovated it was still very welcoming. It is a great value for the asking rate. I will be coming back to stay here again.
This place is awesome! Do u love the old Hollywood style? Do u dream of an original Art Deco experience in the heart of the action? Do u crave those unique designs, features and aesthetics that are unique only to establishments that haven’t been gutted and modernized? Then Canterbury Suites is the place for you! It has all the original architectural features, i.e. charm and history, and the obvious functionality, that comes with this era of design that is iconic. “Rooms” are actually apartments, complete with a full size appliance kitchen, stove/oven, refrigerator, kitchen table, microwave, etc... the size you would expect to find In any downtown area. The grounds are well kept and ambient. The service is great and the manager Timothy has created such a chic retro vibe with the decor and furnishings, as well as friendly and helpful staff. Coffee and pastries are served in the AM too! The parking can be a bit tricky but a city run garage is immediately next door, it’s best to just dock the car there and since SO much to do is within walking distance or a short inexpensive ride service away, you might as well walk. Since it’s a prime spot for Hollywood Blvd action and so much more..I’m so happy I stayed here and if u like original Art Deco, you will too!!
This is the building all the punk rockers used to lived in …in the late 70s and early 80s… I hung out there a few times with them… Since I was one of them.
